About Me

My name is Hannah Deakin and I am 33 years old. I had an injury as a young teenager, I developed several illnesses, then secondary complications and as a result I am disabled and use a powerchair.
I am passionate about making a difference, changing perceptions and promoting equity.

I work part time in accounting, and when I am up to it I fundraise for Starlight Children’s Foundation, a charity which is very close to my heart and whom granted my wish in 2013.

I am a Disability Ambassador for White Lodge and do speeches/workshops with them raising awareness of White Lodge and disability.

I am also an Ambassador for Purple Tuesday.
I am very determined. I hope to get myself as independent and ‘well’ as possible. Hope keeps me going hence why ‘Hannah’s Hope’ seemed an appropriate title for my blog!

I am a public speaker and freelancer. I have been interviewed on ITV, channel 5 and Sky news; Good Morning Britain; a live interview on radio 5 live, been featured in The Times, Express, Mirror and BBC news online; written for Sky news online; done a TEDx speech and been a guest speaker at many events.

Thank you to you and your Mum. You were simply fantastic. Everyone in that room was hanging on every word. Credit to yourself, your family and the charity – what a inspiring ambassador you are.

Mike Hey, Head of Fundraising, White Lodge~April 2023

Hannah delivered the keynote at our annual conference and AGM.  Hannah is a consummate professional! She met with us to understand our requirements before the event, checked in regularly before the event, produced and delivered a wonderful keynote with supporting slides and then engaged with all of our delegates afterwards.  Hannah’s keynote focused on how social media can be harnessed for disability activism, but she has such a vast knowledge of disability issues that I think she would have done a great job whatever our focus was!  Our event was a hybrid event and Hannah presented with both in-person and virtual audiences in mind.  It was a pleasure to work with Hannah and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to other event organisers.
